Since leaving the government in 1985, Jo Anne has practiced white collar defense, successfully resolving investigations and defending prosecutions involving U.S. Attorney’s Offices nationwide, the Attorneys General of New York and New Jersey, the Internal Revenue Service, Customs and Border Protection, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and other state and federal law enforcement organizations.

In 2001, Jo Anne was named a “Lawyer of the Year” by The National Law Journal for her work with African refugees. Jo Anne has long held an AV Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rating and has been named to New York Super Lawyers. 

In 2009 Jo Anne was certified as an Anti-Money Laundering Specialist by ACAMS. She formed Adlerstein Consulting Ltd. in Israel in 2009 to provide training and advice to individuals, banks, and companies on foreign bank account issues and anti-money laundering practices. 

In 2012 the Israel Bar Association initiated a long-awaited procedure for the registration of Foreign Lawyers. In May 2013, Jo Anne became one of the first Registered Foreign Lawyers and set up the Adlerstein Law Office. Her law firm represents residents of Israel in connection with U.S. tax laws, the required reporting of foreign bank accounts (FBARs), Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), and related U.S. legal concerns. Jo Anne's legal practice is limited to U.S. law. She is a member of the New York and New Jersey bars. She does not practice Israeli law and does not notarize documents in Israel.

Attorney Jo Anne C. Adlerstein began her legal career as a tax attorney at Sullivan & Cromwell and then spent 6 1/2 years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney (DNJ) prosecuting criminal tax, fraud, money laundering and immigration cases.
